Paul Dawson practices in the areas of information technology, telecommunication, intellectual property, acquisitions of goods and services, contract law, grant deeds, corporate governance, corporate structures, data protection and privacy.

He also has extensive experience advising government departments and agencies on various procurement projects, probity issues and competitive tendering processes.

Paul was a partner of a national firm before returning to Melbourne and joining FAL Lawyers.

He has relevant expertise and experience in:

  • drafting and negotiating all aspects of information technology agreements, including the primary terms and conditions, statements of work, service levels and other documentation. Particular work has included:

                    -   advising on a tendering process for the procurement of (among others) midrange, desktop and storage services;

                    -   assisting with the procurement of midrange, desktop and storage services, including, including drafting the statement of work (in particular, KPIs), drafted the primary contract terms and conditions, evaluating tender responses, participating in the decision-making process, advising on the riks profile of tenderers (including insurance arrangements and liability caps) and negotiating the contract;

                    -   he has also advised an IT company on its contract for the provision of territorial and satellite services to the Department of Foreign Affiars and Trade, including advising on issues regarding the scope of work and application of liquidated damaged provisions;

                    -   drafting and negotiating contracts for the development and implementation of new information technology services, ef pay roll technology, records management services; and

                    -   providing advice on the transitioning-in of new information technology providers, including reviewing and finalising transition-in plans;

  • drafting and negotiating all aspects of telecommunications agreements, inlcuding specifications, intellectual property arrangements, key performance indicators and customer service obligations;
  • drafting and negotiating intellectual property licences, including those relating to the development and commercialisation of software;
  • drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements for the procurement of goods and services, including standing offers for ICT equipment;
  • advising on tendering and other probity issues, including drafting requests for tender and related documentation; and
  • advising on corporate structures, and drafting constituent documentation implementing the same.

Position, Length of Service

Paul joined FAL in early 2010 shortly after his return to Melbourne. He has been in the legal profession for twenty years.
