Creating Intellectual Property
Most research collaborations result in the creation of new intellectual property (IP), particularly in the IT and biotechnology industries.
FAL is a leader in intellectual property and technology transfer. Our strategic skills, a powerful network of commercial and capital players and years of experience give us the edge in this area.
Where many IP specialists focus on the end-user, we work with researchers on how to create, protect and commercialise IP. Some of the ways in which we can do this include:
-
IP ownership and protection
- Copyright, including subsistence and moral rights
- Trade mark registration and opposition
- Designs, including litigation, registration and infringement
- Licence Agreements
Some examples of how we’ve helped clients create their IP include:
- Drafting and advising in the licensing of technologies, including the establishment of spin off and manufacturing companies
- Providing advice regarding impact of moral rights legislation for the commercialisation of scientific outputs for a wide range of public and private sectors, and drafting of provisions to obtain appropriate moral right consents
- Advising intellectual property investment consortia
- Advising on applications for funding grants and assisting in the drafting of presentations to support those applications
- Introducing clients to others who are able to assist in the development or commercialisation of their IP
- Advising on the establishment and operation of overseas research collaborations
